Which Sabrina do I have?
Now that there are several hundred Sabrinas out in the wild, of one size or another, it can sometimes be difficult for those purchasing a "previously loved" Sabrina to know just which model they have found. It is for those that we provide this brief history of the evolution of the Sabrina line.
- Sabrina I: These are readily identified by simply measuring the outside diameter of the wheel. Sabrina I all have a 12 inch (+/-) diameter wheel. Whorl ratios for this size max out at 10:1, with the most common ratios being 6:1 and 8:1 Sabrina I main column post is made from one piece of wood. The first version these were, with around a hundred in existence.
- Sabrina II: The main difference between a Sabrina I and Sabrina II is that a Sabrina II column is made from three pieces of wood glued together. These were designed to be a lower cost version of a Sabrina I. Only a small number of these were made.
- Sabrina III: These were a design enhancement to allow for higher ratio whorls, and boast a larger diameter wheel. The size of which is 14 inch (+/-). Whorl ratios for a Sabrina III range from 8:1 to 11: 1 generally. Sabrina III's may be equipped with either a wooden rim, or metal rim wheel. A popular size with numerous wheels, in various configurations, made. Metal rim wheels are now discontinued due to supply issues.
- Sabrina V: This version was equipped with an 18 inch metal wheel, and whorl ratios ranged from 10: 1 to 15:1. Only five of these were made. Due to box size required to ship this size it was discontinued and replaced with our latest (and presumably last) version, the Sweet Sixteen Sabrina described below.
-Sweet Sixteen: As the name implies the Sweet Sixteen model has a 16 inch diameter wheel. Ratios generally range from 10:1 and 14:1. After making, and using, the previous versions above, the Sweet Sixteen is our "Goldilocks" wheel. Large enough to perform like a big wheel, yet in a small enough package size to permit easy transport and the use of standard box sizes for shipping.
How to Pack a Sabrina for Shipment
Required: One 24 x 18 x 18 inch box, One 31 x 18 x 18 box. Packing peanuts, Bubble Wrap.
Step 1: Insert the 24 x 18 x 18 box into the 31 x 18 x 18 box. Then place a 1 - 2 inch layer of packing peanuts at bottom of box.
Step 3: Remove the MOa, flyer, and tension knob. Place drive band in a plastic baggie for protection, and fold base behind column as shown.
Step 7: Now wrap remaining parts in packing paper, paying special attention to metal flyer arms. Flyer should be sandwiched between two pieces of thick cardboard, then tape the two cardboard pieces together so flyer is well protected for transit.
